Anchoring the new kitchen and living space at the rear of the ground floor is a large harvest table that accommodates both families and does double duty as additional workspace. Windows were added across the whole rear façade to bring in west light.
 The elegant and considered design is very minimal, with all materials and features carefully chosen and all extraneous elements removed.

 Light and shadow interplay in the space, with the airy, white architecture balanced by darker furnishings such as black dining chairs and dark velvet sofa in the lounge. Touches of other colours and textures add warmth to the cooly elegant space.

 The side entry layout was reconfigured to accommodate better storage for coats, shoes, and bags, with a built-in bench. The laundry room is located off the entry for convenient access from the main living space. A new skylight floods the  area
 Thoughtful details that elevate a minimal scheme include Forbes & Lomax unlacquered brass light switches throughout. These will patina over time with use and age, and are almost like touches of jewelry on the walls.
 Additional storage closets line the hallway from the front entrance to the kitchen to maximize storage. Integrated millwork with slim edge pulls allow the storage to visually recede into the walls, preserving the minimalist feel of the corridor.

 Strategic touches of whimsy keep the Scandinavian influenced design from feeling too self-serious or cold. In the powder room, illustrated wallpaper from the Swedish company Borastapeter adds a cheerful pop of colour off the all-white hallway.
 In the expanded front foyer, contemporary furniture and accessories play off a colourful patterned tile floor to establish the tone of the house upon entry.
 The living room features a cozy wood burning fireplace, and deep blue velvet furniture that compliments the artworks by Tania Love above the fireplace and sofa.
 The area between the houses and the backyards are shared by both families, and are designed with easy flow between the houses in mind.
